I’ve been following Edgar Rodriguez’s case, and it just hits me how often innocent lives are caught in the crossfire of neighborhood violence. We hear about these areas plagued by gangs, but sometimes it’s easy to forget that so many just want to live their lives peacefully. I read that the Humboldt Park community had been trying to organize more outreach programs around that time, focusing on youth engagement and offering alternatives to gang activity. Does anyone know if there were any specific programs in place back in 2009 that might have made a difference for kids like Edgar? It’s just so sad to see young lives cut short and families left to pick up the pieces. I hope the community keeps pushing for change, even if it's an uphill battle.
