I’ve been following the case of Sonni Alexander Greene, and I can’t help but think about how senseless these acts of retaliation truly are. It's deeply unsettling that something as horrific as this could happen in broad daylight at a place as public as a Burger King. Sonni was so young, and he had his whole life ahead of him. I can't imagine the pain his family must be enduring, knowing their loved one was taken from them over prior conflicts escalated to this level of violence. It baffles me how quickly things can spiral out of control when retribution is involved, and how it never seems to provide the closure or resolution those involved think it might achieve. The conviction of Montez Antonio Brooks is a step towards justice, but it can’t undo the loss. I hope this serves as a strong message against such violent retaliations and that it can spark important conversations about finding ways to prevent such tragedies in the future. My thoughts are with Sonni’s family and friends as they navigate this unimaginable grief.
