Has anyone else thought about the challenges of maintaining communication when climbing in such remote areas? It's mentioned that Griber and Von Doersten were rescued, but it makes me wonder how rescue operations even get carried out in those conditions. Given the tough weather on Mount St. Elias and the difficulty of even flying out there due to visibility issues, how do they coordinate this? Having a reliable communication setup seems essential, yet I imagine it must be incredibly difficult to maintain contact when facing such harsh environments, especially with snow limiting sight and flights. Does anyone know what kind of technology climbers typically rely on out there?
Did anyone else catch that part about the missing crampon? It's the little things like this that can have major consequences in such harsh environments. Von Doersten was in a dangerous spot after losing it, and that could have easily been a turning point in the expedition. Luckily, he was rescued, but I can't help but wonder if the equipment checks or preparations were rushed or overlooked. It’s scary to think that one small piece of gear can make such a difference between life and death in these extreme conditions. Hoping those search efforts can pick up soon. Fingers crossed for clearer weather.
Hey folks, I’ve been following this case on Mount St. Elias, and I can’t stop thinking about the conditions on Tyndall Glacier at the time of Aaron and Reed's disappearance. Given the unpredictable weather patterns up there, I wonder if any sudden weather changes might have played a role in what happened. The mention of snowfall limiting visibility makes me think about how often climbers have to brave the elements without clear sight. It's not just about being skilled; sometimes nature throws curveballs that you just can't foresee. I really hope the weather clears soon so search teams can get a better look at the area. What do you guys think weather played into it?
