I can't believe how much this tragedy has shaken the Grand Rapids community. Jayson's murder is an unimaginable loss for his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. It's heartbreaking to think about his bright future stolen in such a senseless way. I was struck by how Jayson's cousin, Commissioner Womack, spoke out about the toll that gun violence has taken on his family. It's clear he’s doing everything he can to push for meaningful change. The fact that the detectives worked hard for months and finally arrested Daquin Freeman shows their commitment to justice, but it's infuriating that this kind of violence keeps happening. The community deserves to feel safe — we all do. I'm hoping this case sparks some real conversations and action on prevention. Sending strength and love to all those grieving Jayson's loss.
