I’ve been following the case of Samuel Thomas, or "Red" as his friends called him, and it really struck me how Catherine Thomas, his mother, has been tirelessly advocating for justice while simultaneously promoting awareness for better mental health resources. I really admire her strength and determination in such a tough time. It seems like there’s a huge gap in support for families going through this type of trauma, and Catherine highlights the need for not just justice but also healing. It's just another painful reminder of how critical it is to provide mental health and trauma support in tandem with addressing crime itself. Her efforts bring attention to these necessary changes, and I hope more people rally behind this cause to ensure that victims’ families aren’t left to fend for themselves in such devastating circumstances. My thoughts go out to all who knew and loved Samuel—his community has lost a truly loved individual, and the fight for change in his memory is incredibly important.
