I’ve been thinking a lot about the two clerks at the Big K Truck Stop who made the call that night — it must be incredibly difficult for them, and I really hope they’ve got all the support they need to heal. They might carry guilt or what-ifs even though they did the right thing by alerting law enforcement to the disturbance. It just goes to show how these tragic events ripple out and affect so many people beyond the immediate victims. I hope they know that no one blames them and they handled an incredibly tough situation as best as anyone could. It’s a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of such incidents and how quickly things can escalate. Sending thoughts and strength to all those touched by this tragedy.
