I keep thinking about how easily this tragedy could have been prevented if Willie J. Wilkinson Jr. hadn't had access to that stolen gun. It boggles my mind that something like a .22-caliber handgun could find its way into a home where children are present, especially given his criminal history. How did he even get his hands on it so quickly? The fact that it was reported stolen just the day before raises so many questions about the chain of events and potential lapses in preventing unauthorized access to firearms. Jadarrius should have been playing outside, worrying about school and friends, not any of this. It's a brutal reminder of how vulnerable our communities can be to gun violence unless there's stronger oversight and accountability. My heart goes out to Jadarrius's family and friends who now have to navigate life without him. They deserve answers, and we owe it to him to push for stronger preventative measures.
