I can't help but wonder about the impact this has had on Justin Handcox's family and friends. Losing someone so young and full of potential is incredibly tragic, especially when it's due to something as senseless as gun violence. In 2010, with Chicago facing such alarming rates of violence, I imagine the fear and frustration were palpable across many neighborhoods. It was probably a time when parents worried every time their kids stepped outside, and communities felt the overwhelming weight of trying to cope with this reality. It's heartbreaking to think about the ripple effects of Justin's murder—not just on his immediate loved ones but also on neighbors, classmates, and others who may have known him. Did any community initiatives come out of Justin's story? Sometimes these tragedies spark movements or create stronger ties among people determined to make a change. My heart goes out to everyone connected to him; I hope the city has learned and grown since then.
