Michael B Lee, 23, of Chicago, was shot multiple times and killed on April 9, 2011, in a South Side neighborhood that had been struggling with rising gun violence. The killing occurred in an area described as having ongoing challenges with gang activity and high rates of violent crime, and it came during a year when the city faced a surge in gun-related homicides that disproportionately affected South and West Side communities.
The case is presented as one of many that illustrated how entrenched social and economic problems, strained community–police relations, and limited cooperation from residents impeded efforts to solve shootings in these neighborhoods. Michael’s death is framed as a tragic example of the human cost of those unresolved issues.
If anyone knew Michael, saw him on April 9, 2011, or has information about the shooting, please share what is known.
