I can't stop thinking about how this tragic event has changed the lives of everyone involved, especially Mario Smith Sr.'s loved ones. Just the sheer violence of what happened is chilling, but beyond that, it reminds me how domestic violence can ripple out and impact those around it in unimaginable ways. While a lot of the focus has been on Makayla Brown, who was just 14, my heart goes out to Mario’s family and friends. Losing someone in such a violent manner must be incredibly difficult to process. I hope they have access to the support they need while grappling with this loss, especially given the complex history surrounding the situation. It just goes to show how crucial it is to address and prevent domestic violence early on, not only to protect adults involved but also to safeguard any children navigating those turbulent environments.
