I can't stop thinking about what happened to Britney Urena. Her story has been on my mind ever since I read about the night she died. Having just celebrated her 15th birthday a week earlier makes it all the more gut-wrenching. She seemed like the kind of person who truly lit up any room she walked into—with her vibrant red hair and that Prom Queen smile. It feels so senseless, what's happened. As an outsider, what really struck me was how this tragedy emphasizes the need for education around firearm safety, especially for our youth. It's not enough to only think about the legal ramifications after the fact. There needs to be more awareness and prevention before it ever reaches this point. I can't even begin to imagine what her family and friends are going through, losing someone so lively and beloved in such a horrific manner. It just seems so unfair. We need to do better at protecting our kids from these kinds of tragic endings. My heart is truly with those who knew and loved Britney.
