I’ve been thinking deeply about Kayla’s love for music and art, and how she used it as an outlet even at such a young age. It’s truly gut-wrenching to imagine the bright future she could have had, possibly channeling those creative passions into something that could inspire others. Her talent and enthusiasm were evident to everyone who knew her, and it's a tragedy that her creativity was extinguished in such a needless act of violence. It makes me wonder what we, as a community, could do to foster children’s interests and perhaps even provide safe havens through programs for kids experiencing family troubles. We sorely need more resources aimed at supporting kids who live in turbulent environments. I hope we can come together to honor Kayla’s memory by ensuring other children in difficult situations are noticed and protected.
