Hey everyone,
I wanted to bring up something that has been on my mind since learning about Officer Wendolyn Odell Tanner's case. I've been thinking a lot about his partner during the tragic event. It must be incredibly tough knowing they were right there when everything went down, and managing to return fire under such intense circumstances takes a lot of courage. I can't imagine the emotional impact this must have had on them, both right after it happened and in the years since.
Does anyone know if there were any support services or counseling offered to the partner or his peers at the Milwaukee PD after the incident? I'm really hoping they had resources available to help them cope with the trauma. This case certainly underscores the intense pressure and split-second decisions officers are forced to make, and my heart goes out to everyone affected.
Thanks for listening. If anyone has insights, I’d be grateful to hear them.
I was reading about Officer Tanner’s case, and I can’t help but feel shaken thinking about the danger our officers face every day. The fact that the bullet struck him between the panels of his vest is just devastating — it shows that even with protection, the risks are immense. I’ve read that ballistic vests have improved since then, but it’s upsetting to know this gap existed back then. I really hope that his fiancée found some peace and support from the community during those difficult times. It might not be much, but maybe improvements in equipment since then have helped prevent similar tragedies. My thoughts are with all those who knew and loved Officer Tanner.
