It’s absolutely gut-wrenching to think about the courage she showed trying to shield Zina Haughton's daughter during the attack. I can't even begin to imagine the terror inside the salon that day, yet Maelyn acted selflessly. It just shows what kind of person she was—putting others first even in a life-threatening situation. Her daughter, Kaela, must be going through so much, losing not just a mom but a true hero. I hope Maelyn’s family finds some comfort in knowing how much of an inspiration she continues to be to many of us following this case. Has the community done anything since to honor their memories or support the families involved? It's crucial we keep these conversations going about domestic violence and protective measures.
