I’ve been following Stephen Carson’s case, and something that keeps weighing on my mind is the community response, or maybe the lack thereof. It’s so incredibly sad to think of a young life like his being lost, but what's even more disheartening is how quickly these tragedies can fade from the public eye in such a big city like Chicago. During that time, it seemed like there were just far too many cases like his—too many young men falling victim to gun violence. The question I'm grappling with is how do communities rally for change in the face of relentless tragedy? Are there grassroots movements or local groups back then that pushed for change in honor of victims like Stephen? It seems like the efforts of these groups might have been crucial in keeping his memory alive and advocating for safer neighborhoods. My heart goes out to Stephen’s family and all those impacted by this senseless violence.
