Has anyone looked into community initiatives that were active around the time of Martell Wesley's murder in 2011? I know West Englewood was a hotspot for violence back then, but I’m curious about the programs that the neighborhood might have had, like mentorships or community centers aiming to curb violence. I feel so much for Martell’s family and all those who lost someone during those difficult years. While law enforcement had their strategies, the local community efforts are often overlooked. They can play such a crucial role in reaching young people and potentially altering the trajectory of their lives. If anyone has info or if people who lived there have stories about community-led efforts, it could give us insight into what was being done at the grassroots level to deal with such tragedies.
