I was reading about Mark Watts' tragic case, and something that keeps coming up in discussions is the impact of the lack of witness cooperation. It’s so frustrating but also understandable given the culture of fear that exists in places like West Englewood. When people are scared of possible retaliation, it's a massive barrier to solving these awful crimes. It's really sad because Mark was just a kid standing on a porch and now his family is left with so many unanswered questions. I hope more people come forward for families like his, despite their fears. We need to break the cycle and create safer communities for everyone, especially the youth who deserve brighter futures.
