It's been years, yet I still can't stop thinking about Anton Sanders and the devastating ripple effect his death had on his community. Even more chilling is how it highlights how ingrained gang culture is in neighborhoods like Rogers Park. It's a sobering thought that a group chose to adopt his nickname, "Pooh Bear," for their gang. What could have been a fond memory of Anton among his friends now feels like a twisted tribute, further highlighting the complexity of gang influence on young people in the area. I can't imagine the pain his family must still feel, especially knowing that his name is being used in this way. It makes me wonder how the community addresses these issues on a grassroots level. What more can we do to prevent these senseless tragedies from continuing and to help honor young people like Anton in more positive ways?
