Has anyone else looked into the political climate surrounding Lester Wood's election as sheriff? It's so intriguing yet tragic how he faced opposition from the Ku Klux Klan. I can't even imagine the pressure of running a campaign with such a contentious backdrop. It makes his victory even more remarkable, though his tragic death just months later is a stark reminder of how dangerous the world was back then for those in law enforcement. I wonder how much these political tensions might have influenced events leading up to that fateful day at Dole Valley. My heart goes out to his family and the community that lost such a brave and determined public servant. It's astounding how his legacy still stands strong almost a century later.
