I’ve been reading up on Deputy Meehan's case, and something that stood out to me was his brave service during World War I before he joined the Sheriff's Office. It’s devastating to think about how someone who survived the horrors of war could meet such a violent end while serving his community. The scars of those who’ve served carry on long after the battles have ended, and it’s tragic that his life was cut short in such a senseless way. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones who had to face not only the loss of a hero but to see his legacy marked by such a violent act. It's also a solemn reminder of the everyday dangers law enforcement officers are faced with, regardless of when and where they are serving. Does anyone have more information about his family or any other military commendations he might’ve received? I think it’s important we remember and honor his full story.
