I keep thinking about the testimony during Hoffman and McGinnis's trial where officers described the chaotic scene. It’s harrowing to imagine how quickly everything unfolded when those flares went up. The fact that they used flares to illuminate and then ambush officers is chilling. It sounds like something out of a movie, but it was a terrifying reality for the officers on the ground that night. The use of flares was so calculated—these weren't actions of someone caught in a moment of panic; it was deliberate and thought-out. I can't even begin to fathom the bravery it must have taken for Sergeant Millard and the others to approach that situation, not knowing what was waiting for them. My thoughts are with his family and colleagues who had to deal with the aftermath of such a traumatic loss. It's haunting to think about how one moment can change so many lives forever.
