I recently came across the baffling case of Asante McCalla, and something that struck me was the sheer size of the search area. Covering 16,550 square nautical miles off the coast of Southern California is no small feat, yet somehow, not a single clue was found? It’s hard to wrap my mind around how a young officer could vanish without a trace during what's described as 'routine' training operations. It makes me wonder about the procedures in place for such a situation. Are there usually surveillance cameras onboard ships like the USS Lake Erie? Could any onboard footage provide hints about what might have happened? The fact that no evidence was discovered makes me question if he could have ended up far from where they expected. It's such a perplexing situation, and my heart goes out to his family, who are undoubtedly looking for answers even now.
