I've been thinking a lot about the day of the Café Racer tragedy and the impact on everyone involved. It's surreal to consider that someone like Donald B. "Don" Largen, who spent his life surrounded by music and creativity, could be taken away in such a violent and unexpected manner. It's evident from everything I've read that Largen was much more than an urban planner; his passion for the saxophone and his involvement in the local arts scene resonated with so many people. I keep going back to the fact that this tragedy shed light on something troubling in our community. It's sad how many warning signs about Ian Stawicki's behavior went unnoticed or were just not addressed adequately. I really hope that this case continues to fuel conversations around mental health services. Don and the other victims deserved so much more, and it's devastating that their lives were cut short. Reading about the friendships and family bonds they had makes me truly empathize with everyone who loved them. I hope we honor their memory by making real changes to prevent further incidents like this.

Does anyone else find it chilling how warning signs were overlooked before the tragedy at Café Racer? I was reading about Donald B. “Don” Largen and the other victims, and it’s deeply unsettling to think that Ian Stawicki was asked to leave the café just a week before the shooting. How was it possible for someone with a history of mental health issues and erratic behavior to still have access to firearms? This might be a question without a straightforward answer, but it echoes the importance of addressing these red flags more seriously. Sending thoughts to the families, and hoping the conversation around mental health support continues to grow stronger. Their loss is deeply felt by all of us who see the need for change.
