I keep thinking about the candlelight vigil held for Michael and Austin. It really showed how close-knit the CWU community is. The turnout was overwhelming, with so many people coming together to remember two young men taken too soon. I wasn’t able to attend, but friends who went said it was a beautiful, bittersweet evening filled with shared memories and lots of emotion. This tragedy has impacted everyone deeply, and seeing such a supportive community is heartwarming. It's comforting, in a way, to know that Michael and Austin’s loved ones are surrounded by so much support during this incredibly difficult time. It’s so important that we continue to be there for one another and make mental health resources more accessible, especially when faced with such unthinkable circumstances.
I was scrolling through some of the discussions on the Michael Demchuck case and was struck by the mention of the candlelight vigil. It’s moments like these that highlight the strength and unity of the CWU community. Having so many friends, family, and fellow students come together in solidarity speaks volumes about the impact Michael and Austin had on those around them. I can only imagine how incredibly difficult it must be for everyone who attended, seeing reminders of their absence in every corner of campus life. It must have brought at least a small sense of solace to know they weren’t alone in their grief. My thoughts are with all those who are navigating this painful loss, and I hope they continue to support one another through the tough times. Has anyone heard if the university plans any ongoing memorial or support initiatives for the students?
