Hey everyone,
I’ve been following Robert McNear’s case, and something that struck me was the impact of disbanding those specialized units in Chicago. It's so frustrating to think that there might have been strategies that could have potentially made a difference in not only Robert's case but many others during that grim year. It’s crucial that this aspect isn’t overlooked when we talk about solutions. The fact that some neighborhoods might have been left more vulnerable is unsettling. Why were these units disbanded when they could've provided extra support? Especially in areas already struggling with gang activities and rising tensions. Does anyone have more insight into why that decision was made? It seems like a critical piece of the puzzle when we think about how to prevent these tragedies.
Sending strength and love to Robert's family and friends. It’s so important that they see justice and that the community finds paths to healing and safety.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Has anyone else looked into the policing strategies surrounding Robert McNear's case? I recently read that during 2012, Chicago faced backlash over disbanding specialized gang units, which some say left certain areas more vulnerable to outbreaks of violence. It's tough not to wonder if Robert’s life could have been saved if those units were still operational. The loss his loved ones must feel is unimaginable. The need for strategic police reform and better support in these communities is clear. Would love to hear others' thoughts on this aspect of the case and how the city's approach might have changed since then.
