I’ve been thinking a lot about the systemic issues that contributed to the tragic death of Teryion Connor. It feels like his story, unfortunately, mirrors that of too many young people who grew up in areas plagued by violence. What hit me hardest was a point someone else made about how these neighborhoods lack resources and opportunities. It's just so frustrating to see that these systemic issues create an environment where violence seems almost inevitable. I can't help but wonder what could be done differently at a societal level—better education, more community centers, or job programs that have shown success in other cities, maybe? Young people like Teryion deserve a chance to thrive and pursue their dreams, not become statistics in a wave of violence. I read somewhere that his friends described him as full of life and ambition, and those words have stayed with me. It’s just incredibly sad to think of the potential that was lost that day. I hope continuing discussions and community efforts can somehow honor his memory by bringing about meaningful change. My heart truly goes out to his family and friends, who must cope with this unimaginable loss.
