For communities on the South and West sides, these were lifelines against escalating violence. Imagine being a resident, already navigating daily challenges, and then feeling the added pressure as protection seemed to pull back. It's so painful to consider lives lost and families forever changed. I hope there’s an ongoing evaluation on how policing strategies can be improved to avoid leaving any community vulnerable to such violence.
