Did anyone else find it odd that there seems to be little to no mention of any potential witnesses or neighbors in McCollum's area coming forward with information? It baffles me how two burglars could carry out such a heinous act without being noticed. I feel immensely for McCollum’s family because they deserve closure. It makes me wonder if there was some sort of code of silence among the community, or if fear kept people from speaking up. Does anyone have thoughts on this or know if there was any media campaign at the time that asked for public assistance? It just seems quiet for a crime that was so brutal and publicly known.
I've been following the McCollum case with a lot of interest and can't help but feel for his family, especially considering how brutal his end was. What's really got me puzzled is the lack of leads in identifying those two burglars. It's been decades, and these individuals just vanished without a trace after committing such a brazen crime.
I've read that a few similar unsolved cases from that era eventually got cracked with fresh eyes and new technology. Maybe the same could happen here? I wonder if any of those old case files from the '60s hold more clues than initially thought, or if locals have shared some whispers that never made it to official reports. It’s chilling to think that people might know something and have stayed silent all this time. Anyone familiar with how the community around Marcum, Kentucky, reacted back then? It would be interesting to know if there were rumors or suspicions flying around that might have been overlooked.
