Does anyone else feel a mix of relief and sadness about Vicki Lucille Heath's case now that it's linked to the "I-65 Killer"? While it’s reassuring to finally know who was behind these heinous acts, it’s so disheartening that it took over 35 years to identify him. I'm trying to imagine the emotional rollercoaster her family must have endured all these years without answers.
It's mind-boggling how the advancements in forensic science, like investigative genealogy, have changed the game entirely. It makes me wonder how many other unsolved cases might finally get their answers because of these advances. Still, knowing that Greenwell was out there for so long and the pain he caused so many is something that sits heavy in my heart. My thoughts are with all the families affected by his actions.
I wanted to bring up something that often gets overlooked in the tragic case of Vicki Lucille Heath—the impact on the night shift employees at motels back then and the fear they must have lived with after her murder. It's chilling to think about how they had to go about their jobs knowing there was someone out there targeting people just like them. These workers, many of whom were women doing late-night shifts for extra income, had to balance fear for their safety with the need to provide for their families.
After Heath's murder, you can imagine how the news spread among the motels along I-65, and what a terrifying shadow it cast over their lives. I can’t help but feel for everyone who had to navigate that fear while just trying to make a living. It’s a part of the story that reminds us of the broader impact these crimes have beyond the immediate victims and their families. If you or someone you know worked in motels during that era, I’d really appreciate any insights into what it was like and how it might have changed their perception of safety at work.
