I was just reading about Jose Melendez's case, and it's deeply unsettling. I can't stop thinking about the broader context in which his tragic death happened. 2012 was such a rough year for Chicago with homicides spiking over 500, a terrifying statistic. It’s frustrating and sad to see how communities like the one Jose lived in were battling so much more than just crime—they were up against economic and social hurdles too. It's clear that despite the Chicago PD and community groups trying hard to turn things around, more robust solutions were necessary. My thoughts are with Jose's family and friends. They deserved better, and it pains me to think of all the lives that are forever affected by such senseless violence.
