Hey everyone,
I just can't stop thinking about how our youth are being pulled into such violent situations, and what happened to Bobby is a tragic example of this. When I heard about Bobby's case, it struck me how social media played a part in orchestrating that fatal meeting. It's alarming how quickly an online interaction can escalate into something so devastating in real life.
I read that the students at Lafayette High School started a group named WAVES after these incidents to help spread awareness and prevent more violence. It's amazing to see the younger generation taking a stand to try to make a difference. However, it makes me wonder if more could be done to educate teens about conflict resolution and the dangers of meeting people who they've connected with online. Maybe schools could implement programs that address these issues more directly?
My heart goes out to Bobby's family and friends, as well as to the community that has suffered not one, but two tragic losses. I hope that initiatives like WAVES can make a positive impact and prevent future tragedies from happening. Maybe this can be the turning point we need to really focus on teaching peace and understanding.
What do you all think? Are there ways your local schools are addressing violence and online safety that others might benefit from hearing about?
Stay safe and be kind to each other.
Has anyone else been following the WAVES group at Lafayette High School? It's touching to see students coming together in response to such a devastating event. The creation of WAVES shows just how deeply Bobby's death impacted his peers, and it’s inspiring to witness young people channel their grief into something positive. I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through, but I hope knowing that Bobby's legacy is potentially saving lives can offer some solace. It’s another stark reminder of how crucial it is to educate our youth on violence prevention and the real-life consequences of these senseless acts. Would love to hear if anyone else has more info on how WAVES has been doing since its inception.
Hey everyone,
I've been following Bobby Durrum's case since it happened, and there's something I can't shake off. It's just so troubling to think about how Bobby and his friends had to deal with not one, but two tragedies in such a short time. Trinity Gay's death was already such a heavy blow, and then to lose Bobby, too? I can't imagine the level of fear and insecurity that must have lingered among the students at Lafayette High after these incidents.
I find it moving that the students responded by forming WAVES. They could have just been swallowed by grief or anger, but instead, they decided to make a difference. It’s inspiring to see young people channel their pain into something positive, trying to make sure no other student has to face what they went through. I’m sure Bobby would be proud of his peers for taking a stand. Let’s hope their efforts lead to meaningful change and serve as a lasting tribute to both Bobby and Trinity.
Sending thoughts to Bobby's family, friends, and the entire school community.
Stay safe, everyone.
