Hi everyone, I've been following Meg Smith's case, and something that really stood out to me was how she had been diligently trying to protect herself from Derek Garten's threats. Despite having an EPO in place, the system seemed to fail her. It's incredibly concerning how someone can still live in such fear even after taking legal measures. I can’t help but feel for Meg's son too, having to encounter such a traumatic scene at such a young age. It’s a level of tragedy that no child should have to experience, and my thoughts are with him as he navigates through life without his mother. The whole situation just highlights how crucial it is for authorities to act swiftly and decisively in domestic violence situations, especially when there’s a history of abuse. It’s my hope that cases like Meg’s lead to some real changes in how protective orders are enforced, so that others don’t have to live through such terror. Stay safe, everyone.
