I was reading up on the tragic events of that November 2012 weekend in Chicago, and my heart goes out to Aswell G. Selmon's family and community. What really strikes me about this case is how it underscores the ongoing struggle between local efforts to curb violence and the deep-rooted systemic issues that persist. It’s tough to see someone like Selmon, who was just a member of the community, fall victim to circumstances that seem so beyond individual control. I wonder what more could have been done back then or even now to prevent such senseless acts. North Lawndale faced so many challenges, from gang activity to economic instability, and it seemed like every step forward was met with another setback. It must be incredibly frustrating for those who have worked tirelessly to make the neighborhood a safer place. Sending my thoughts to those who knew Selmon. It’s undeniably difficult to think about each life lost and the stories behind them, and I hope the community continues to find strength in their shared fight for peace and security.
