I've been thinking a lot about how cases like Nancy Mae Cornett Smith's affect not just the immediate family but the whole community. It’s just so devastating that a close-knit town like Viper had to endure such a senseless act of violence. From what I know about small communities, people talk, support each other, and really try to make sense of what happened. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this has been for Nancy’s children and grandchildren—they must be going through an incredibly tough time. I’m particularly interested in how communities heal after something like this. Do any of you know if there have been local support groups or community gatherings that have allowed the family and broader community to come together and share their grief and memories? The unity and strength communities can find in times of tragedy can be so essential. It would be great if there was a way for people to reach out and connect, so those who knew and loved Nancy can find some solace and maybe even work towards preventing something like this from happening again.
