I can't stop thinking about how the human element sometimes gets overshadowed when we talk about statistics in cases like Ronald A. Baskin's murder. It's not just another number. This was a young man visiting family on Mother's Day—a time that should be filled with joy and love, not senseless tragedy. My heart goes out to Hal Baskin and his family. The pain of losing a nephew is unimaginable, and yet Hal's determination to continue fighting violence in his community is truly admirable. It reminds us all that while data points to a larger issue, each life lost is a person whose absence is deeply felt by those who loved them. Englewood and communities similar to it deserve more attention and help, and it's inspiring to see people like Hal trying to make a difference against daunting odds. Let's keep these families in our thoughts and do what we can to support efforts to bring safety and peace to areas plagued by violence.
