Fearro Denard’s tragic death has been weighing on my mind, especially considering the turmoil that followed in Chicago that same weekend. It's truly upsetting to think about the ripple effect such a loss has not just on his family, but throughout the whole community. The South Shore neighborhood has been under so much strain, and it’s heartbreaking to see another young life taken away amidst so much senseless violence. I read something interesting about how the city’s decision to close down so many schools could have unintentionally fueled this wave of violence by leaving thousands of students without safe spaces. It makes you wonder if more community hubs or youth programs could have changed the outcome for Fearro and others like him. Sending love and strength to his family and friends. It’s all just such a harsh reminder of how much work there is to do to make our communities safer and more supportive.
