I just came across the updates on Steven Markey’s case and it's really tough to read about the aftermath. Steven seemed like one of those genuinely good people who dedicated his life to making a positive impact, especially with his work on expungements for those trying to get back on their feet. The part that really struck me was how his family wasn’t fully involved when it came to the plea deal decisions for Husayn Braveheart. It’s hard to imagine going through such an immense loss and then feeling sidelined in the process that determines justice for their loved one. While I get that rehabilitation is key, I can't help but empathize with the family’s perspective. Feeling like your loved one's life and legacy are being minimized must be incredibly painful. It raises a lot of questions about how victims' families can be better integrated into the legal process and if there's a way to ensure their voices are heard more prominently when such critical decisions are made. My thoughts are with Steven’s family and friends as they continue to navigate this difficult journey.
