I just found out Jaquon was a youth sports coach and it’s really weighing heavy on my mind thinking about the kids he mentored. It’s just incomprehensible to me how gun violence keeps taking the lives of people who are doing genuine good in the world. I can't help but feel for those children who looked up to him — losing someone like Jaquon is going to leave such a hole in their lives. It’s not just two families who are grieving but entire strands of the community affected. His work as a community leader shows he was dedicated to making his neighborhood better, and now, like so many others, he’s gone in a senseless act. I'm appalled at how violence like this can happen in spaces where families and children should feel safe. It makes me wonder what more can be done to prevent these tragedies in the future. My thoughts are with all those who are mourning Jaquon and Venius. ?
I can't stop thinking about how this tragedy occurred in a place where kids often play. It's so disturbing to imagine the chaos and fear that must have struck the community during the shooting. I mean, Galveston Street SW sounds like a neighborhood that many called home, not just a crime scene. To witness something like this leaves a scar, not only on the families but on the community as well.
Jaquon was someone who dedicated himself to the youth, making positive impacts through sports. And Venius, a school bus driver, had a connection with the kids too. It’s truly disheartening that their lives were cut short so suddenly and violently. They were out there doing their best for the next generation, and yet, this senseless violence took them away.
I'm hoping for some measures to make neighborhoods safer, especially for children. Maybe there could be more community programs or events in their memory to keep their spirits alive and deter violence. Thoughts and prayers to their families and everyone affected by this horrifying act.
I’ve been following the tragic case of Jaquon Helm and Venius Badgett, and one detail I find particularly haunting is the location of the shooting – a courtyard where children often play. It’s hard to comprehend how a space that's supposed to be filled with laughter and play could become a crime scene. My heart goes out to the families who live in that community; I can’t imagine the fear and sadness they must feel, knowing their kids were so close to such violence.
Jaquon and Venius both seemed like people who dedicated their lives to supporting and guiding young ones in their community. It's deeply unsettling to think that a parking lot argument could escalate to such devastating consequences in a place meant for safety and joy. I hope there’s some healing and peace for the neighborhood eventually. Anyone know if there’s been any initiatives started to support the community through this trauma?
