I’ve been thinking about the community impact following Deputy Sheriff George T. Rice’s tragic murder in Smith Valley. It must have been a terrifying ordeal for everyone, especially those near the school that day. It's unimaginable to consider how the students and teachers felt knowing gunfire was so close to their daily environment. I wonder how the local authorities and school administration addressed students' and families' fears in the aftermath. Did they implement any long-term support or security changes? Losing Deputy Rice must have been a significant blow to the community, and dealing with such trauma takes time. Sending love and strength to all who are still affected by this terrible incident.
