It's been 20 years since the tragic killing of Orlando Barlow, and my thoughts go out to his family, who must still feel the deep pain of losing someone in such a senseless manner. There are so many layers to this case, but I’ve been thinking a lot about how the broader investigation into the LVPD didn't lead to any charges against Officer Hartman. It’s frustrating, to say the least. I wonder if anyone else here has come across information about why systemic issues in police departments often result in minimal consequences for individual officers involved? Orlando was surrendering when he was shot, and the thought of how frequently similar situations have occurred is truly unsettling. How do we continue pushing for accountability and real changes after all these years? Would love to hear any insights or additional info you guys might have gathered or even what you’re doing personally to keep pushing for reform.
