Hey everyone, I recently came across the Veronica Caldwell case from 2015, and I can’t stop thinking about how Veronica’s mother, Rose Floyd, had to navigate such an overwhelming legal and emotional storm after the tragedy. I'm really struck by her resilience – I can't even imagine having to fight through the heartbreak and bureaucracy simultaneously. The fact that Rose had to advocate so passionately for Veronica’s Law just so she could properly honor her daughter’s memory shows how complex and inadequate some of our legal systems might be when it comes to issues surrounding domestic violence. It’s remarkable how she took her personal grief and turned it into a powerful force for change. It’s a sad reminder of how injustices can tangle deeply with trauma. It's heartening to see that Rose's advocacy led to something meaningful, making sure other families hopefully don’t have to fight the same battle she did. My thoughts are with Rose and all those who knew and loved Veronica, Yvonne, and Cory. I’d love to hear any further thoughts you all might have on how we, as a community, can support families who go through these unimaginable situations.
