I’ve been following the case of Amy Hinkey and Adeline Sam and it’s just awful to see the impact it's had on their community. One thing I’ve been thinking about is the role tribal law had throughout the investigation and trial. It’s tragic that it takes something so devastating to bring light to the complexities tribal justice faces, especially when dealing with violent crimes. Even with Stoney Prior’s conviction, it’s essential to keep pushing for changes that could prevent violent incidents like this from happening in the first place. Hopefully, it opens up more discussions about support and protection for Indigenous women. My heart goes out to Amy and Adeline’s families and the community still healing from this nightmare.
