I was reading about the sad case of Joel Wade and wanted to discuss the broader context of violence in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. It’s just devastating to see how these communities get caught in a cycle where young lives are frequently cut short. Despite the efforts of local groups and law enforcement, it seems like the root causes, such as poverty and lack of opportunities, aren’t being effectively addressed. I can’t help but think about the families and friends who are left to pick up the pieces—not just in Joel’s case but in the countless others that year. It’s a reminder of how important it is for us to support policies and programs that focus on prevention and really engage with these communities. How can we better support those on the ground trying to make a difference?
