Does anyone else find it deeply troubling how Gabriel Meneses's case seemed to go so quiet after the initial news reports? Here was a young man, just 31, who had his life taken in such a violent way, and yet it feels like his story got overshadowed by the sheer number of similar tragedies happening in Chicago that year. It's scary to think that violence can reach into neighborhoods like Portage Park, which are usually considered safer. My thoughts go out to Gabriel’s family and friends who must be dealing with unimaginable grief and frustration. It's hard not to feel a sense of urgency about addressing gun violence when you see its impact on everyday people and their communities.
