I've been thinking about how crucial the forensics work was in Donald Ott's case. Without that thorough evidence gathering, including the phone records and forensic tips about the call to Mary Mikesell, the true chain of events might never have been pieced together. It's chilling how small, seemingly insignificant details can break a case wide open. It makes me wonder how many cases remain unsolved just because a tiny piece of the puzzle is missing. It must have been a harrowing time for Donald's family, dealing with not just the loss but the confusion and complexity of the case. It's a relief, at least, that the investigative work was able to bring some justice to the situation, even if it can't undo the event. Thoughts go out to all those touched by this nightmare.
