I came across Leroy Stinson's case while reading about the crime rates in Chicago back in 2014, and it’s been weighing on my mind. It’s so tragic to think about the lives affected by the city's gun violence, and Leroy’s story really puts a face to the statistics. I can’t help but wonder about Leroy’s life and who he was outside of his tragic death. Was he a father, a friend, a community member who others depended on? Each loss like this not only shatters a family but also deeply impacts the neighborhood. It must be incredibly painful for his loved ones to have lost him to such senseless violence. As discussions around the solutions to gun violence continue, it seems so important to remember the individuals, like Leroy, who remind us of the urgency of the situation. While I’m hopeful that initiatives stemming from this grim period can bring about positive change, I also can’t ignore the communities that still feel the strain of what happened. Sending thoughts and support to all those who knew and cared for Leroy. Hoping peace and justice come to those still living in fear.
