You know, one detail about this case that always sticks with me is the sheer bravery of some of the first responders that night, particularly Sgt. Michael Hawkins. Can you imagine being in his shoes, walking into that chaos and devastation? The decision to carry out little Veronica's body must have been one of the hardest any responder has ever faced. It's such a testament to the compassion and humanity of those who put themselves in the line of fire to help others. Sgt. Hawkins said he became emotional during his testimony, and it's understandable—what he witnessed would affect anyone profoundly. It's easy to overlook the toll this takes on first responders, but they too carry the weight of these tragedies for the rest of their lives. My heart goes out to them as much as it does to the victims' families. Stay strong, everyone. ?
