I've been thinking about the impact this whole situation must have had on the families left behind, especially Jake's parents, Kent and Ernestine. Losing a child is every parent's worst nightmare, but in such a violent and unexpected way, it's unfathomable. It must be so difficult to process what happened without the chance for a trial or any real answers about why it escalated in the first place. The community seems to have rallied around them, but I can't imagine how hard it must be to find peace after something like this. Sending all my thoughts to those grieving, hoping they can find some solace in the support from friends and neighbors.
