Hey everyone, I was digging through some archived newspaper articles about the Earl Lee Dannels case, and I stumbled upon something intriguing. Earl’s family took out multiple ads pleading for his safe return shortly after his disappearance. It's interesting to note that in one of the ads, they specifically mentioned Earl’s love for music. I can't help but wonder if there’s any connection to local music venues or groups he might have been involved with at the time. Could Earl have gone to San Francisco, which was a huge hub for the music scene in '69, and just vanished into that scene somehow? It seems like a long shot, but given the era and location, it might be another angle worth exploring. Anyone else have thoughts or want to look into this aspect of the case?
Have any of you looked into the strange details about Earl Lee Dannels' disappearance in 1969? Something that struck me is the $400 he left in his bank account. Back in the day, that's a decent sum of money, especially for a college student. If Earl had really planned on disappearing to avoid the draft, wouldn't he have withdrawn that cash to fund his travels or to lay low? It seems odd that he would leave it untouched if he intended to vanish on his own terms.
Some have suggested foul play, but then there's the lack of evidence — no signs of a struggle, no unusual activity reported around the time he disappeared. The case is so mysterious, and I'm curious if anyone on here has any theories about what might have happened to him. Could it be that he trusted someone who ultimately led him into danger? Whatever the reason, it’s baffling that there have been so few clues all these years. Interested to hear any other thoughts or theories!
Has anyone else been looking into the possibility that Earl might have had an interest in any of the counterculture or political movements going on in the Bay Area around 1969? It's interesting because Berkeley was such a hotbed for activism and protests at the time. I'm wondering if there's any chance he could have gotten involved with a group that required going off the grid or something. I know it's all speculation, but considering the era and his age as a college student, it doesn't seem too far-fetched. Anyone have any thoughts or more info on any associates he might have had at school? Seems like a possible angle that's worth exploring.
