I've been following the case of Ernesto Apodaca III quite closely, and while I'm relieved that justice was served with the suspect's conviction, I can't help but wonder about the effect this tragedy has had on the La Junta community. Having grown up in a tight-knit neighborhood myself, I know how profoundly such a violent event can shake everyone who knew the victim. Ernesto was taken from us so shockingly; it's poignant to think about how his community must be dealing with his absence. I really feel for his family and friends who have had to navigate through life without him. I hope they have the support they need to heal and remember Ernesto for the joy he brought into their lives rather than just the manner in which he was taken away. It's so important for communities to come together in times like these, offering strength to get through such a difficult time.
